- Upholding the Olympic motto of being Faster, Stronger and Higher, Miles celebrated its Annual Sports Day with much pomp, splendor and gaiety. The Football ground was the venue for the celebrations. Lt. Col. Sanjay Choudhury, Officiating Commander, 3rd Air Formation Signal Regiment, Mr. Tarun Saikia, the first Assamese mountaineer to scale Mt. Everest and Lt. Col. Retd Rasmi Dewan graced the occasion as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special invitee respectively. In his address Founder and Principal Dr. N. K. Dutta deliberated extensively on the growing importance of sports and games for growing school children as well as adults. He also highlighted the need to stay fit against the backdrop of a very hectic lifestyle and erratic fitness habits. He cited instances of latest American research indicating a gap in the fitness level of the present generation compared to their parents. Dr. N.K. Dutta also informed about the upcoming sports facilities at Miles including state of the art basketball courts, mini golf course, horse riding and other equestrian events besides the best training in lawn tennis to be availed from the foundation headed by India’s ace tennis doubles specialist Mahesh Bhupati. Students impressed with their defensive skills by an outstanding display of Taekwondo. Chief Guest Lt Col. Sanjay Choudhury urged students to be future leaders. Accepting the salute from the various houses participating in the march past event, he also exhorted students to take up responsibility with confidence and be an important part in the process of nation building. Guest of Honour and the first Assamese to Scale Mt. Everest Mr. Tarun Saikia inspired students and all present with his mountaineering experience and advised students to take up the challenges, keep the spirit of adventure and overcome all hurdles. Special Invitee Lt. Col. Retd. Rasmi Dewan spoke on the need to make student life in a boarding school meaningful by inculcating self discipline, optimism and sharing a common purpose against all possible hurdles in order to face the future well. They also gave away a number of prizes in various categories, including the much anticipated Best Turn out (Boy) bagged by Hrisikesh Hazarika - Light House, (Girl) Babyca Ningthaizam - Earth House, Best Cadet (Boy) Prasurjyo Das - Earth House, (Girl) S. Sonia Devi - Air House, Best Commander (Boy) Puia Ralte - Water House, (Girl) Hiya Rani Brahma - Water House, Best House in the march past category - Water House. A special Award was given to School Commander Dhritihash Giri Basumatary. The programme was anchored by HOD Arts Mr. T.A. Hazarika along with Quality Assurance Manager, Sr. Faculty CABE Mr. Areef Ahmed.
