- The CBSE Cluster I Basketball Tournament 2014-15 was organized by Miles Bronson Residential School, Borjhar, Guwahati, from 25 to 27 Oct 2014. The Tournament began with a grand Opening Ceremony on the morning of 25 Oct wherein Mr Jagadish Barman, Assistant Secretary, Regional Office, CBSE, Guwahati was the Chief Guest and Mr Shiva Thapa, boxer of international repute, twice Asian Games Gold Medallist and the youngest ever Indian to have qualified for Olympics, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The event began with the welcome and felicitations of Mr Jagadish Barman and Mr Shiva Thapa at the School grounds. Dr Nripen Kumar Dutta, Founder & Principal, Miles Bronson Residential School accompanied the guests to the venue. Welcome speech by Dr NK Dutta was followed by the Welcome Song by the girl students of the organizing school and an impressive March Past by all participating teams. 18 schools participated in this important sport event from 25 to 27 Oct. In all 18 boys' teams and nine girls' teams vied for honours. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour inaugurated two brand new state of the art Basketball Courts, made as per the FIBA guidelines, which have Proflex layering and a side gallery for the dignitaries. The Inauguration Plaque was also jointly inaugurated by the guests. In his Welcome Speech, Dr NK Dutta spoke on the importance of sports in our day to day life as also its long term benefits. Mr Jagadish Barman also asked the students to devote substantial time to physical fitness every day. Mr Shiva Thapa delivered a powerful and inspiring talk, citing his own rise from an extremely humble background. He was given a standing ovation when he spoke. He asked the students to have an aim in life and then get after it enthusiastically until the same has been achieved. Girl students of Miles Bronson Residential School presented a beautiful aerobic dance which made the audience sing and swing with them. For the final day on 27 Oct Col Sunil Sharma, Commanding Officer 3 Air Formation Signal Regiment and Ms Rekha Ranee Gogoi, the international Taekwondo player from Assam, were invited as the Chief Guest and the gUest of Honour respectively. Dr Nripen Kuma Dutta, the Founder & Principal, Miles Bronson Residential School, Borjhar, in his concluding speech spoke of the enthusiasm and skills displayed by both boys' and girls' teams. He expressed satisfaction on the successful completion of the Tournament and thanked all present for making this event a big success. Colonel Sunil Sharma urged all students to develop a strong moral and physical character and take a keener interest in sports as they not only help build but also reveal one's character. Ms Rekha Ranee Gogoi also spoke on the occasion, asking all students to dream, set a goal and then pursue it with full focus and energy. Miles Bronson Residential School emerged as the Second Runner Up in Boys' category. Also, Lallawmtluanga of our School was awarded the 'Best Player - Boys' trophy. The show of grit and determination began with the clash of boys' and girls' teams with full ferocity. The second day witnessed some real great matches which were so well contested that the competing teams not only moved neck and neck, they finished the matches with final score difference of just one point! All in all, the event was indeed a successful one, with everyone praising the School for an exceptional organization of this much awaited tournament of the CBSE. What was evident was the teams which ultimately prevailed over their opponents had better coordination, huge physical stamina and an envying scoring accuracy. Hope, despair, joy, tears, enthusiasm, thrill, strength, stamina, endurance, skill, so much was at display at this Tournament which was organized by Miles Bronson Residential School, Borjhar with a very high level of dexterity.
